Intensive Spanish Courses
The goal of our courses is to teach people to communicate in Spanish in real world situations. With this goal in mind, our classes focus on basic linguistic skills: speaking and spoken interaction, listening comprehension, reading and writing.
Our concept of teaching is based on communicative methods where new technology plays an important role. Our teachers are all native speakers, they have a university degree in languages and are very experienced in teaching Spanish as a foreign language.
Spanish Courses are held in small groups where all our students receive personal attention.
Courses are held all the year round. Students can join the course any Monday. They have to do a previous placement test to enter the correct course level. In case there is no other student with the same level, lessons would be reduced to half of the time.
Students who have no Spanish level should join a complete beginners intensive course. Starting dates for complete beginners: 2nd week of January -1st week of March -1 week after eastern Monday (April/May) – 1st week of July – 3rd week of July -1st week of September -1st week of October -1st week of November. Other beginning dates are also available, if there is more than one student interested..
Our 6 levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference:
- Basic User: A1 y A2
- Independent User: B1 y B2
- Proficient User : C1 y C2
The level A1 accredits that students have the sufficient knowledge of the language to cope with the most important estructures and the basic vocabulary (around 1000 words) so that they can express themselves in a simple communicative situation in 3 tenses (present, past and future). It is essential that students familiarize themselves with new sounds and assimilate the entonation of the new language forgetting their mother tongue when they speak in Spanish. Following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, by the end of the course students should be able to: Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Introduce themselves and others as well as ask and answer questions about personal details. Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly. They will also get an insight into Spanish culture and customs.
The level course A2 is to build up on the skills already acquired in the previous course and to add further skills which will enable students to deal with texts and situations which are linguistically more challenging than those experienced in lower levels. According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, by the end of the course students should be able to: Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of immediate relevance such as personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment, etc. Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
B1 attests to students having sufficient linguistic competence to understand and appropriately respond to the most common situations of everyday life and to communicate wishes and needs in a basic manner. Students can read general texts and simple literary texts, as well as write letters and compositions on general aspects of everyday life. Following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, by the end of the course students should be able to: Understand the main points of texts spoken and written in standard varieties of Spanish that are not excessively local, provided that they involve well-known topics related to work, studies or everyday life. Deal with most situations likely to arise whilst traveling in an area where the language is spoken. Produce simple, coherent texts about well-known topics or issues of personal interest, such as describing experiences, events, wishes, plans, and aspirations, or expressing opinions. Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
This level attests to the student having sufficient linguistic competence to get by in most situations of everyday life, and in other normal circumstances that don’t require any specialised use of language. Students are capable of arguing points of view, presenting arguments and learning to use idiomatic expressions or other stylistic resources that allow a creative use of the language. Following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, by the end of the course students should be able to: Understand the gist of complex spoken and written texts, including those about abstract topics, presented in diverse varieties of Spanish, or of a technical nature, especially if they are about specialized areas of knowledge with which they are familiar. Interact with all types of speakers, with sufficient fluency and spontaneity, so that communication does not constitute an effort for either interlocutor. Produce clear and detailed texts about diverse topics, including those involving dialectic analysis, debate or defending a point of view.
Spanish Level C1 proves that there is enough linguistic ability for the candidate to express themselves clearly using a broad range of lexical skills as well as idiomatic and colloquial expressions. Following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, by the end of the course students should be able to: Understand a wide variety of long, quite demanding texts, as well as recognise implicit meanings in them. Express themselves fluently and spontaneously, without any obvious effort to find the right words. Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed texts on topics having a certain level of complexity, with correct use of mechanisms for organising and articulating a cohesive text.
Level C2 is the highest and most advanced of the six learning levels and it certifies sufficient linguistic competence to perfectly handle any kind of situation, proving a spontaneous capacity of adaptation to any context, with a great deal of semantic and grammatical precision. The language users express themselves fluently, with a high degree of specialization and complexity. Following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, by the end of the course students should be able to: Understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Express themselves spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.
